Dale Murphy

"I won't cheat"
~Dale Murphy

I like the fact that Dale Murphy being a famous athlete said this as well. It is a great example to follow because in sports there is always the temptation to cheat  but this athlete was an exception. In all honesty cheating is wrong and totally not worth it because in the end, it will catch up to you and when it does it will hit you harder than you would have thought. I learned from many people that cheating bites you in the behind after a while and from what they have told me, karma really did get them back bad. I think Dale was courageous to say this because not all athletes say this, even if they are great athletes. When Dale said this, he said it to the public and I feel like he did this so that the audience can learn from that and not cheat, not only in sports but in life. Its way better to achieve things on your own even if you have to fail at times, that's what life is about to keep moving forward.

Dale Murphy

" Character matters most"
~Dale Murphy

I agree with Dale because overall in anything you do or say, your character will define you. Your character can either say if you are a good person or a bad person, and through your character people will get to know you, whether its your best part or your worst part. Your character does't only matter because of how it presents you to the world but it makes up a major part of your personality. If you show good character in the worst situations it will show that you are a calm person and that your character is easy going. But if you lash out on everyone when you are going through a tough time in your life, you will represent yourself to the world as an aggressive person. So yes you character does matter because it doesn't only define who you are but who the people around are as well.

Benjamin Franklin

" Great beauty, great strength, and great riches are really and great riches are really and truly of no great use; a right heart exceeds all."

I agree with this quote because the overall thing that affects a person and marks them forever is a great heart. Beauty fades away, your strength weakens, and the great riches you have, one day will end. But a good heart never does and through only this, You can see the beauty that lies within and the strength a person has. It might sound strange that a good heart reflects strength, but it does, there are many things a person has to give up to have a good heart and it takes strength to give up many thing you may care for to have a good heart. Having riches won't make you happy, because i the end if you don't have a good heart you will live like something is missing from your life. If you don't have a good heart, it is no use to have great riches, beauty or strength, it really isn't.

James Freeman Clarke

" It may make a difference to all eternity whether we do right or wrong today."
~James Freeman Clarke

This quote has so much meaning to me because one thing you do in just one day can mark you for the rest of your life. An example is that if I help someone who maybe does not like me and treats me bad but I treat them with kindness after all they have done to me, I will mark them that I am a good person. I will also mark others showing despite the hurt this person mad me go through I put it aside and helped her. If I were to treat her like how she treated me, I would mark to not only this person but to others that I am exactly like her and that people should steer clear from me. All the decisions we make in one day have outcomes for not only us but for the ones around us that specific day. I learned that every choice we make no matter what affects others.

Reflection: No I would not like to be an osteopathic physician because it is a job the simply does not interest me and it seems to be too many years to get your education. Also although I do want to work with kids and help people improve their health, I would want to do another job that contributes to these areas.

Otto Graham Jr

"Ask yourself is it right or wrong and act accordingly."
~Otto Graham Jr

I like this quote, because the statement to me is so relate able. I learned this from so long ago that if you feel and know whatever your thinking is right then do it and act through that reasonably. But if you know its wrong and you are still a sane person that you feel it is wrong don't do it. If you are going to do because you seem to ignore it then you will act wrong and maybe you won't even seem to care. Everyday a person should ask themselves this because it is you who either makes your life hard or simple, it is you who can either give you a good life or a bad life. What I mean by this is that people won't always be there for you and you will have to learn how to get through things alone and whatever you chose to be, either right or wrong, it will affect you in the long run. I know this from experience and I had to learn the hard way because I didn't listen to my gut feel and my conscious.

President's Day

President's Day

It is a holiday that is always celebrated every third Monday of February. It was originally established in 1885 across the whole country and is still officially called "Washington's Birthday" even though his birthday is February 22. It was created to make more three day weekends for the nation's workers. President's Day is viewed to celebrate all the presidents in history. Even though it was established for Washington's remembrance, three other presidents are celebrated on this same day. They are Abraham Lincoln, William Henry Harrison and Ronald Reagan. Now this holiday is often celebrated to remember but in schools when this day is around the corner teachers often like to teach about the presidents. People who work often give specials in products and a lot of sale promotions. This holiday is mainly to celebrate all the presidents around the country and pay respect for their honor. This is one of the reasons that in 1848 Washington's monument was built, to honor his memory and cause national celebration.

Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day

Although Valentine's Day history is murky, there are 2 legends. One is that St. Valentine was a priest who married young lovers, but he was killed when he was discovered. He went against the emperor Claudius II because he forbid that young soldiers marry. He believed that single soldiers were better than the ones who had wives and families. Another legend is that he was imprisoned for trying to help Christians escape their cell in which they were tortured. While he was in his cell the jailers daughter visited Valentine and he fell in love with her and her sent her a love note which was signed saying love your Valentine which is an expression still used today. The oldest known Valentine note is a poem composed by Charles, Duke of Orleans to his wife while he was imprisoned in the tower of London. Ever since the tradition for Valentine's Day is giving love. Many people send letters and flowers, and others buy bears and chocolate. Valentine's is the second popular card sending holiday. Many people give and receive love notes this day of the year, which is February 14.
